Diabetic And Prediabetic Footcare Part 4 of 4 – Proper Footwear

Welcome back. So i can assumed that by now you will be able to Recognise an “At-Risk” foot, know the 6 Tips on Good Diabetic and Prediabetic Footcare Practices and also 12 Harmful Practices for Footcare
Now we can move on to the final part of the series - Proper Footwear for Diabetics and Prediabetics. Here’s 7 Things You Should Do as a Diabetic or Prediabetic.
7 General Things You Should Do
- Wear shoes at all times
- Avoid socks with garters
- Wear cotton-material socks or stockings to avoid blisters and sores
- Always check the inside of your footwear to ensure no sharp objects, rough surfaces or stones before putting them on to prevent injuries to your feet
- Wear well-fitting shoes and those that protect your feet
- Choose shoes that have and wide toe boxes
- Wear laced up or Velcro shoes if possible
2 Special Considerations for Indoor Diabetic Footwear
- Covered toes
- Non-slippery
3 Special Considerations for Outdoor Diabetic Footwear
- Covered shoes
- Cotton socks
- Conforming removable insoles
Footwear That Are Highly Unrecommended For Diabetics and Prediabetics
High heels
- increase pressure on forefoot
- increase risk for formation of callous burns
Flip-flops
- may tear the skin between your toes
- usually slippery
Clogs
- poor grip
- hard edges may cut your skin
This concludes the 4 part series on Diabetic and Prediabetic Footcare. Taking good care of your feet is important for preventing complications in diabetes for instance limb amputations. Do not be complacent even if you are just a prediabetic or you have not seen anything abnormal with your feet - it will be too late by then.
Do remember : Prevention is Always Better Than Amputation
