Diabetic And Prediabetic Footcare Part 1 of 4 – Recognising an “At-Risk Foot”
By pohheng | August 25, 2008
One of the major consequences of being a diabetic is limb amputations. In Singapore alone, there are 2 to 3 limb amputations daily because of diabetic foot complications.
Even if you are just a prediabetic, it still pays for you to take good care of your foot and be able to recognise what is an “at risk” foot. For example, I am only a prediabetic but i have already began to see foot ulcers in between my toes (see picture right below and notiice how dry my skin is). The reason is because the harm to your body does not start after you become a diabetic, it actually happens way before - when you are just a prediabetic.

10 Useful Tips For Prediabetics to Keep Trim
By pohheng | July 31, 2008
One of the most important thing to do if you want to reverse prediabetes is to lose weight. A 10 to 15% weight loss can reduce your risk of developing into Type 2 Diabetes by 50%.
Here are 10 Useful Tips to Keep Trim
- Exercise regularly
- Never skip meals and try to eat more meals a day in smaller portions. Even distribution of food throughout the day is important. Better to eat like a rabbit than a bear.
- Eat high fibre food
- Weigh yourself regularly
- Reduce snacking or junk food
- Restrict food that contains high saturated fats and cholestrol
- Choose to bake, steam or broil your food over frying
- Use sugar substitutes if you have to sweeten food and beverages
- Order only what you need to eat or eat only what you need
- Learn to stop eating before you feel full
These tips have been instrumental in my path of reversing my prediabetes so why not give it a try. Best wishes.

There is No Such Thing as a “Diabetic Diet”
By pohheng | July 20, 2008
What is a “Diabetic Diet”? I used to ask this question and now i know that there is no such thing. There only exist a diet known as “Balanced Diet”.
Therefore, a recommended diet for diabetes and prediabetes is no different for a normal person - that is to eat healthily.
A Balanced Diet:
- choose different kinds of food from each of the 4 major groups everyday: CHO, Vegetables & Fibre, Protein and Fat
- Other important nutrients include vitamins and minerals
- eat less of the food at the top of the food pyramid: fat, oil, sugar and salt
- eat at regular times of the during
- take food quantity in moderation
- avoid skipping meals due to risk of hypoglycemia and tendency to indulge in next meal.
