The Book That Changed My LIFE
By pohheng | June 2, 2008
Today is the first day i am without a job and also yet to secure the next. Why…you may ask. Eversince i was diagnosed with prediabetes, my weight has been declining and up to a point that even my doctors were unsure why and could not explain. At the same time, my health was deteriorating. A couple of friends even hinted that cancer could cause drastic weight loss as well. This really unsettled me and made my worried.
It was during this period of uncertainty when i came across this INSPIRING book which stopped me in my tracks and TOTALLY changed my outlook of life. The book is by Richard Carlson and Kristine Carlson and is called “An Hour to Live, An Hour to Love”.
After reading the book, i fully understood what really matters in life, definitely not the money you have made, not your achievements, not your broker, banker etc….REALLY, it is about the people you love. The book touches my heart so much that i can always feel the tears swell in my eyes (i am not the emotional type by the way) everytime i recall the contents of the book. It also made me follow my heart and make a change so as to live life to the fullest and the way i wanted, simply because i wouldn’t want to have any regrets in case tomorrow never comes.
Therefore, i chose to stay close to my family and leave a good job which due to circumstances, frequent overseas trips are unavoidable. So do not keep putting off things till Tomorrow when you can do it TODAY. I quote exactly from the book, “If you had one hour to live and could make just one phone call, who would you call? What would you say? WHY are you waiting?”
More about this book: It is based on a true story of the best gift ever given by the love the author has for his wife. Richard Carlson is the best selling author of “Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff”. My wife is his fan though i have not heard of him before reading this book. The book is about Richard’s love letter to his wife Kristine on their 18th wedding anniversary. It was written 3 years prior to his sudden death while on a plane in 2006 at the young age of 45. Through this letter, he shares on his thoughts and feelings on the three questions above and his sudden departure just let us know that life is vulnerable and unpredictable. You can get the book here, believe me, it is highly recommended and you will not regret reading:
In the last part of the book, there is a touching poem by Norma Cornett Marek Called “Tomorrow Never Comes” because “Tomorrow is not promised to anyone, young or old alike….and TODAY may be the last chance”….read the full poem here.

[...] This is a very touching lecture by Professor (Dr) Randy Pausch who had pancreatic cancer and had 3 to 6 months of good health left. The inspiring man succumbed to his illness last Friday 25 Jul 08 at an age of 47. This gentleman has made such an impact on me and my life that i wanted to share with everyone about his lesson on How to Live Your Life and life now had a new meaning. (Btw the way, the other person is Richard Carlson, read about it here) [...]
