Things I Hate Most About Being a Prediabetic

I have been diagnosed with prediabetes for almost 1 year and the here are some of the things i hate most about being a prediabetic
- when my son offers me a candy and i have to say NO to him. Now he don’t give me anymore
- more half the people i talked to never heard prediabetes before and i have to tell my story again and again…humm, maybe they ought to just visit this blog
- saying no to people for their offer of food and drinks - makes me feel so unfriendly
- wasting food sometimes which is so unlike me but blood glucose will definitely go high if i finish all the food
- unable to eat birthday cakes, even my own, so sad
- knowing that i can reverse prediabetes and going that extra effort to avoid high GI food and ended up Hypoglycemia (low blood) and have to take sugary stuff to bring up the glucose levels - seemed like all efforts going down to drain
- being unable to drink most soda like I used to and have to settle for the once rejected Coke Light or Pepsi Light
- being unable to eat my favourite foods like roti prata (last ate 9 months ago, sob), french fries, noodles, durians (oh it’s the DURIAN season now)
- apple is the only “safe” fruit and i eat everyday
- checking on food labels with close scrutiny for the amount of glucose and their friends (sucrose etc)
- saying no to the kind auntie from MacDonald’s to order french fries, apple pie or sundae
- being giddy and wonder if it’s hypoglycemia again
- more thirsty than usual and start to wonder if blood glucose is high (Hyperglycemia)again
- over exercise causing raises blood glucose instead of lowering it
- being tired / fatigue easily
- different standards from different websites and doctors on glucose reading representation i.e. some say HbA1c > 6.0 is prediabetes while some say is diabetes. so which is which?
- having a blister on my foot and began to worry about amputation
- there is no planned diet so I have to gauge my own food
- getting worried when the next HbA1c test date is near - will it go up or down?
- can’t help feeling like a prisoner sometimes on the amount of “unhealthy” food i can’t eat
- poking the glucose test kit needle on the same spot causing the skin to peel
- forgetting to take medication
- unable to eat the great food from my own business (can’t help but want to promote the site again sgxiaobei.com)
- they say losing weight is good for prediabetes but my BMI is already 20
- your glucose test shows a high reading when you least expected it
I really do hope that i can get a < 6.0 HbA1c results in the next test which will be in late August and stop this dreaded prediabetes. If you are a diabetic or prediabetic, please fee l free to leave your comments.
P.S. i count myself so much luckier than people who are suffering from Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes as i can understand the suffering and inconveniences this disease has brought on their lives. Let us pray for a cure for Diabetes soon.
