Today is Dumping Festival or Dragon Boat Festival. It is an important date in the Chinese Calendar to honour Qu Yuan, a patriotic Chinese Poet. Find out more about this Dumpling or Dragon Boat Festival here.

On this day, people will race dragon boats and eat chinese dumplings, glutinous rice wrapped in bamboo leaves. This is one of my favourite food but this year is different because glutinous rice is a no-no for prediabetics. It is a high Glycemic Index or GI food which will cause the blood glucose / sugar level to rise rapidly. As I am controlling my diet through low GI food, i am giving dumplings a miss this year. So sad…but at the rate I am going, i will probably be totally reversed from prediabetes next year so i guess i just have to bear with it.

Those who can eat it, enjoy yourselves ok. I’ll join you next year, ya.

I will be writing more about GI food very soon so stay tuned.
