What is Hyperglycemia? When Does Hyperglycemia Happens?

What is Hyperglycemia (Hyperglycaemia)?
Hyperglycemia is a common condition experienced by people with Diabetes (Type 1 or Type 2) and even in Prediabetes. In simple terms, it means that your blood glucose levels are higher than it should be or higher than normal.
When does Hyperglycemia happens?
Hyperglycemia can happen when the blood glucose levels are uncontrolled due to events like
- forgotten your insulin
- having insufficient insulin
- using expired insulin
- forgotting to take oral medication (glucose controlling drugs like Metformin)
- eating more food than usual or planned
- eating wrong choice of food
- exercising less than usual
- illness, infections, operations, accidents
- stress
- dehydration
- pregnancy
