If you suspect you are suffering from high blood glucose / sugar or Hyperglycemia (Hyperglycaemia) and also experience some of these symptoms, you can do the following:
- Check your blood glucose / sugar level immediately using your blood glucose meter
- If your blood glucose levels are higher than normal, drink more fluid. Choose plain water or sugar-free or non-caffeinated drinks. Do not take fruit juices.
- Check your blood glucose every 4 hourly and take your medications as prescribed
- Exercise to reduce your sugar levels but only in the absence of ketones
- Reduce the amount of food you eat especially carbohydrates
- If your blood glucose or ketones do not return to normal levels, seek assistance from your doctor.
Treating Hyperglycemia is important as prolonged high blood glucose / sugar levels can lead to many complications later
